Legends Of Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta province is one of the most densely populated areas of Indonesia. The city came into being in 1755, after the division of Mataram into the Sultanates of Yogyakarta and Surakarta (Solo). Gamelan, classical and contemporary Javanese dances, the wayang kulit leather puppet theater and other expressions of traditional art will keep the visitor spellbound. Local craftsmen excel in the arts of batiks, silver and leather work.

In the middle of south Central Java lies the magical region of Yogyakarta, the cradle of Javanese culture and tradition. In the north the volatile, Mount Merapi – the Fire Mountain with captivating physical beauty stands vigorously guarding the surrounding nature.
This gigantic volcano, sometimes dangerous with its eruption and lava spitted from its crater, but at the same time gives tremendous fertility to the land. That’s the reason why the farmers – inhabitants living in its slope do not want to leave their ancestor’s place of birth. They have a mystical relation with Merapi to live in harmony with ‘the rulers’ of the mountain to keep them safe and peaceful.
It disclosed that the name Jogja, instead of Yogyakarta or Yogya, is used as a promotion to market Yogyakarta since Y is a difficult alphabetical start for most international audiences -both reading and spelling. While Jogja is easily pronounced as JOG-ja, even JOG could be used as nickname.
Yogyakarta is known for its silver work, leather puppets used for shadow plays (wayang kulit), and a unique style of making batik dyed fabric. It is also known for its vivid contemporary art scene. Yogyakarta is also known for its gamelan music, including the unique style Gamelan Yogyakarta, which developed in the courts.
Water Castle
Built in 1758 by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I just west of the kraton, part of this pleasure garden and castle is at present no more than an intriguing collection of ruins, pools, arches and underground passages enclosed by massive walls, however, the central courtyard with the nymph-baths has been restored.
The Water Castle is located in the older part of the city within walking distance from the Bird Market. A number of batik workshops line the avenue leading to the pleasure garden’s entrance.
Imogiri
Imogiri is the official cemetery of the royal descendants from Yogyakarta and Surakarta. The royal graveyard is located on a hilltop, reachable by 345 stone steps leading to it.
Imogiri is about 17 kms southeast of Yogyakarta and easily accessible by bus or car. The tombs are built within three main courtyards.
Entry into the smaller courtyards housing the tombs of the princes is allowed only on Monday 09.00 – 12.00 or Friday 13.00 – 16.00. Traditional Javanese dress has to be worn, which however can be hired on the spot at a modest fee. The cemetery is closed during the Moslem month of Ramadhan.

Your Beach in Bali

Here you can find restaurants such as Bonsai Café where you can eat great food for a very reasonable price, the Mango Restaurant & Bar with a great lounge-seating area under the palm trees, and one of my favorites the little Spirit café that serves great sandwiches with first class view of the beach and sea.
As you can see Sanur beach has more to offer than just nice sand and a calm see. It is a great place if you are looking for total relaxation during your holiday while staying at one of the many beach hotels and enjoying lunch and dinner in the terrific restaurants located right at the beach.

Sanur beach is definitely an option if you are planning a holiday in which your main activity is relaxing on the beach. It is one of the biggest and nicest beaches on Bali and the walk way along the beach is perfect for jogging, cycling and strolling in the early mornings or just towards the end of the afternoon.
This beach has been attracting travelers since the 1960's. To profit from the increase of tourist numbers the former president Soekarno used his resources to build a huge 9 story building with a bowling alley, golf course and massive swimming pool right at the beach. You can still see it today and can only wonder why they haven't gotten rid of it yet...
Sukarno also came up with another idea which seems to be more successful than his massive hotel. At that time Sanur beach looked a bit different: it had black volcanic sand instead of the white sand it has today.
So what happened...?
Well, it had nothing to do with the miracles of Mother Nature. Instead the former president brought in tons of golden coral sand to cover the original black beach. The white sand is now kept in place through breakwaters that are built in sea. Imagine that...
Not surprisingly after that more beach hotels were built along the beach and today you can see many wonderful resorts that offer charming and luxurious Balinese styled accommodation such as the Puri Santrian resort, the Mercure resort and the Bali Hyatt.
If you are staying at one of these beach hotels you are guaranteed that you will have a nice piece of quiet beach where you can enjoy the sun on one of the many beach chairs that are for hotel guests only.

Palm Springs California

Palm Springs, California and the surrounding Coachella Valley communities have, over the last 25 years, achieved the reputation as one of the premier vacation golf destination, vacation and retirement areas in the United States. The Valley offers a warm, dry climate along with over 325 days of sunshine and less than 6 inches of rain each year.

Today, the Coachella Valley is composed of nine cities: Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, and Coachella. Given the dry, climate, weather and all the recreational amenities offered to residents here it is no surprise that the area experiences a growth rate in excess of 5% per year with an expected 500,000 permanent residents by the year 2010.

This community is famous for its golf courses. For the traveling golf enthusiast, there are over 80 public and private golf facilities, including many of the finest works from the world's best known architects & designers. The Golfers Guide to California figures there are more than 240 miles of fairways in the greater Palm Springs area, (that's probably enough for any hacker to keep it on the short grass).

Excellent shopping facilities make this "other sport" one of the area's greatest assets, and one of the main delights for visitors. Shops in the new Desert Fashion Shopping Plazas are equal those of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The areas many boutiques also provide a high-fashion image as well.

Restaurants here offer a broad variety of fine dining facilities encompassing every taste imaginable from Southwestern Tex-Mex to the finest French Cuisine in all price ranges and presentations.

Alicante is one of Spain's oldest cities, tracing its history back to the Romans more than 2,000 years ago. Its original name "Lucentum" translates as "City of Light".

Alicante’s location is a culmination of various stretches of nature coming together, in an area in front of the sea. Alicante is protected by many hills, which add to its defense value.

This is why the first human settlers to the area chose it. Rocky Point, Sandy Beach Destination Vacation

Located a few miles from Puerto Peñasco (see the hill in middle of above picture- that is the town of Puerto Peñasco), Sandy Beach is a getaway on its own. The same curios found in the downtown stores is available from beach vendors.

Besides fractional ownerships and timeshares, many homes on Sandy Beach are rented by the day or week. There are management companies that rent out these luxurious homes on and near the beach.

Sandy Beach Property owners rarely live in Rocky Point full time. They often stay for short periods of time, like weeks or months throughout the year. While gone, they rent our their large homes for the week, weekend or month.

Vacation home rentals on the beach are an alternative choice to renting a hotel room. When there are more the 3 or 4 in a family, the overall cost can be considerably less. Some houses, valued between $600-1,000,000, will rent out between $250-350 a day.

Rocky Point Bike Rally and Spring Break visitors sell out all rentals well in advance of the events. The beach homes provide an inexpensive stay when shared among friends.

See photos of Sandy Beach, where most of the hotels, condominiums and rental and ownership homes are built.

Turn your authoritarian police state into a five star tourist destination

If you build it, they will come. That's what EA is hoping for in the upcoming expansion SimCity Societies Destinations, in which you'll attempt to build five-star resort cities that attract snooty gourmands, backpacking thrill-seekers, and scantily-clad spring breakers alike. Of course, as tourism booms in your SimCity, you'll need to balance the happiness of the local population with the needs of a large influx of travelers, all with one goal in mind: filling your treasury with simoleans. Cha-ching!

The original SimCity Societies attempted to infuse the societal values of The Sims into the city-building and planning of SimCity with mixed results. While it's always fun to force your lowly Sims into submission under the heel of an authoritarian police state, the societal gameplay elements proved a bit too abstract for many, and there was no significant strategy or challenge in shaping your city and values. Destinations looks to hone the gameplay as you focus instead on something we all know and love: vacation.
Whether you surf or ski depends entirely on what terrain you choose, each with its own specific landmarks that you'll have to work around. A tropical island paradise is perfect for water sports but you may have to contend with a volcanic eruption, while a quaint ski town tends to, you know, get cold. We got our hands on Destinations this week and began by building a quaint spiritual enclave in an alpine zone. Increasing the population was simple enough: choose a power source (we went green and chose wind power), build housing for the locals (monasteries, of course), and find them some work. We built some missions and Scientology-inspired temperance centers, and soon the simoleans were rolling in. We could have continued balancing power, housing , and work, but the heart of Destinations is in building tourist venues to attract visitors. For our enclave, we went with a combination of religious altars, an art museum, a bookstore, and a famous grave. To entice travelers to see the sights, we built a few bed-and-breakfasts for accommodations.

You have to spend money to make money in Destinations, and you'll find yourself in a constant cycle of using tax revenue for new venues and accommodations. Soon tourist Sims will flood the city, such as burnouts who have tired of grinding away at the office week after week, professional gamblers, or religious converts and pilgrims. From there you'll have to fulfill their needs by offering appropriate dining, accommodation, and activity options. Backpackers will look for a cheap slice of pizza and a place in a 16-bed room at a youth hostel, while high rollers will demand a four-course meal at a four-star restaurant near a luxury hotel room with mints on the pillow. How you cater to the people is, as always in SimCity, entirely up to you.

Back at our spiritual enclave, our city soon became overrun by transient hippies looking for a free ride in our peaceful community. We hate hippies. Despite objections from the local monks, we constructed a police station to up the authority level of our city before the smell of patchouli oil got out of hand. This brings up an interesting point in Destinations. For completely understandable reasons, tourism does not bode well in Orwellian police states. Sure, you can build "colorful" venues like dungeons, jails, and military schools, but for whatever reason the tourists don't seem to appreciate these hotbeds of oppression like we do. It seems that to truly succeed in Destinations you'll need to focus more on creativity, knowledge, spirituality, and prosperity. To see how your Sims are faring, zoom in and click on the little guys to see their thoughts on the city, how much cash they've spent, and even what souvenirs they've purchased.
